Work & Life Lessons I’ve Learned in Business

Being a home-based business owner has been a huge blessing to me throughout the years, and I have learned lessons through entrepreneurship that I would never have learned had I not pursued this lucrative career path. Are you considering taking the plunge and pursuing entrepreneurship? If so, you will discover things about life and about yourself that will change EVERYTHING about how you approach each day of your life.
Perhaps you are like me, and you thrive on having choices. When I was growing up, I craved a more spiritual educational experience at school than what I received. I absolutely loathed public school, and I intuitively knew even when I was a child that public school education was not a true reflection of the type of life that I wanted to live. When I was about 10 years old, I begged my parents to enroll me in a Christian private school even though I had never stepped into a Christian private school, but to no avail. My parents supported public education and they wanted all 3 of their children to attend public school, and so, we did. I hated having to be educated without having any decisions Everything about public education is the opposite of what I love about the kind of lifestyle that an entrepreneurial life provides. In public educational institutions, you are segregated by age, forced to learn topics that you are not interested in and remain in a setting with people who don’t always share your values. As an entrepreneur, I can choose where I work, who I work with, how I want to work, and what I want to do for work.
I started my entrepreneurship journey while I was still enrolled in college, and I kind of stumbled into the entrepreneur life. I never planned on being self-employed, but that was probably because entrepreneurship was never taught as a career choice when I was attending public school. Having my own business has shown me that it is worth it to carve out your own path in life and to do it as soon as possible so that more doors and opportunities can be opened. Who knows whose blessing is tied to your obedience? There are so many people who are in my life today because I need them and because they need me. That’s what makes the world go around; people have needs, and there are people who fulfill those needs. Throughout my journey I have discovered the importance of following promptings and filling needs.
As your own boss, you simply have to be self-disciplined if you want to achieve your goals. Becoming self-disciplined is a process kind of like building a muscle; you have to practice at it regularly in order for it to develop. The faster that you can accomplish a task, the better. You just never know how accomplishing that task will help the future of your business. The more consistent that you are about ploughing the fields, following up with customers, practicing your part, and doing whatever it is that is needed to help your business to shine, the better of your business will be. Consistency, either an abundance of it or a lack of it, is usually the key to figuring out why something is the way that it is.
