Learning is a lifelong pursuit, and school is never truly out for the pro. Summer is a season for soaking up the sun, connecting with loved ones, and exploring your interests. Summer is also a time to learn. Although I am not a fan of certain school SYSTEMS, I have always been a fan of education and learning. The classroom of life does not need a blackboard in it. The classroom where you feel most productive and inspired might be a kitchen, an open field, a stage, or anywhere you can learn the skills that you need to learn in order to become the person who you need to be. You have probably studied subjects in school that you disliked and did not see the point of learning. A well-rounded education should not have to mean that you need to spend your time studying things that you are not going to follow through on. Entrepreneurship is a subject that every student, young and old, should learn about if they want to learn more about themselves.
When I was a child, I always felt a mixture of envy, admiration, and approval of people who had the opportunities to work full time as child actors. As far as I was concerned (and still am), working as a performing artist from a young age is a privilege and opportunity that is far more rewarding than sitting in a classroom surrounded by people who are not going to enhance your life in any way. A performance artist is an entrepreneur, and there are many skills that one learns through performing that will serve them throughout their lives. The school of life does not care what mark you received in your geology class. It does not care if you were the class salutatorian. Not that you cannot learn valuable information from your geology class, because you absolutely can. However, you as an individual are worth more than any school grade that you receive. Always remember that!
Entrepreneurs work in every industry that you can possibly imagine. The art, image consulting, commerce, information technology, and financial industries are just some industries in which plenty of self-employed individuals work in. You can find a way to allow your independence, creativity, and quick problem-solving skills to shine. As an entrepreneur, you are the project manager of absolutely everything that you do. All of the aspects of your business require your leadership and vision in order to flourish and shine. The responsibility of planning, organizing, and managing your brand is up to you, and you can choose to work on your own, or, with other people. It can be a wonderful feeling knowing that you started something from scratch and your efforts are supporting your family and community.
Can you imagine a day in which everything goes according to plan? What a day that would be. Your every wish and desire would be fulfilled. The truth is that most days are different and not every desire comes true. Entrepreneurship teaches you how to roll with the punches. You need to be proactive when you lead a company. Whether you are a solopreneur or you lead a staff of more than 50 people, you learn the value of perseverance when you are an entrepreneur. Perseverance is a skill that will serve you in every area for the rest of your life. Through entrepreneurship, you learn to take risks, analyse, when to pull back and when to put your heart on the line, and you also learn to provide solutions. That’s what entrepreneurs do; they find a need and they fill it.
